Bistros Du Monde, Taormina, Sicily
In July, we visited Taormina in Sicily, and I can confidently say we had some of the best food of our lives during that week.
The ambiance was indeed timeless—intimate and romantic. Our table was set on the charming cobbled streets of Taormina, surrounded by the lively buzz of the town. The setting was enchanting, with fairy lights and a small dinner lamp setting a cosy scene.
Upon arrival, we ordered a traditional Aperol and Hugo Spritz. Just before our meal, traditional Sicilian musicians serenaded us, making the evening even more special.
When it came to ordering, we couldn’t decide between the homemade saffron gnocchi with the catch of the day, capers, olives, and confit cherry tomatoes, or the tagliatelle with truffle and prawns—so we ordered both to share. The gnocchi was particularly outstanding, with the fish, capers, and perfectly textured gnocchi creating an unforgettable combination of flavours.
After our meal, the owner stopped by our table to share a story about the time he catered for the cast of White Lotus while they were filming in Taormina. They had sat right next to where we were, which made the experience even cooler!
